Chapter 5 Oral Composition: A Story in the Past



Choose one of the topics in Phrase by Phrase Chapter 5, page 52. Compose a short talk (1-1.5 minutes).
  • Choose one day in the past at your workplace and tell how you completed a task or occupied your time. Use regular past tense verbs.
  • Tell about one of the things that you built, fixed, or created in the past. Use regular past tense verbs.
Incorporate the sound focuses:
  • Word stress and intonation
  • /t/ as in time
  • /d/ as in do
  • Regular past tense –ed endings /t/, /d/, and /id/
  • Vowel length
After preparation, peer editing, and practice at home, present your story to a live audience classmates. Ask your listeners for feedback on your presentation.
